In 1892, Albert H. Weinbrenner and his partner Joseph Peffer opened a cobblery in Milwaukee, serving "Jobbing" trades. Eight years later, the Albert H. Weinbrenner Co. was formed. By 1916, they had more leather cutting machines than any other company in the U.S. and printed their first catalog. The concept of "Job-fitted" footwear was introduced in 1917, and Weinbrenner became a major supplier of boots to the U.S. Army during World War I.
In 1938, the company took its first steps into safety footwear production, and in 1942, they celebrated their 50th anniversary by converting to all-military footwear during World War II. Not only were they producing combat and dress styles for the military, but their military footwear also gained popularity among civilians.
In 1943, the employees of the company organized under the International Boot & Shoe Workers Union, and their management has maintained an outstanding relationship with the workers ever since. In 1964, the company introduced "The Hike n' Camp," the Official Boy Scout Boot, which became their best-selling boot to this day.
In 1988, the company was purchased by a local group, and they created the "ThoroGard" division, specializing in high-tech occupational safety footwear. They celebrated their 100th anniversary in 1992, and in 2000, the employees took ownership of the company through an ESOP.
In 2001, shortly after the September 11 terror attacks, Weinbrenner donated durable work boots to Ground Zero for the rescue workers. They introduced the 1892 Heritage line of handcrafted lifestyle boots in 2014 and celebrated their 125th anniversary in 2017.
In 2022, as part of their 130th-anniversary celebration, Weinbrenner opened a new factory in Merrill, WI, and launched their first western wear product, Thorogood's Square Toe Wellingtons. The following year, sales continued to increase as Thorogood gained popularity and introduced new styles.
The product description highlights the safety features of the boots, including the safety toe, electric hazard resistance, slip resistance, and oil-resistance. The boots are made with premium oil-tanned full-grain leather, manufactured in the USA, and constructed using Goodyear welt construction for durability. They also feature removable ultimate shock absorption footbeds and fiberglass shank construction for added comfort and support.
Thorogood's "Job-fitted" design makes these boots ideal for various outdoor and industrial applications, suitable for carpenters, construction workers, electricians, farmers, maintenance technicians, mechanics, pipefitters, plumbers, and anyone in need of comfortable work boots for dirty jobs.
