From the brand: Previous page In 1892, Albert H. Weinbrenner opened a cobblery in Milwaukee with his partner, Joseph Peffer, serving "jobbing" trades. In 1900, Albert H. Weinbrenner Co. was formed. By 1916, the company had more leather cutting machines than any other in the U.S. and printed its first catalog. In 1917, they introduced the "job-fitted" concept and became a major contributor of boots to the U.S. Army in WWI. In 1938, the company started producing safety footwear. In 1942, they celebrated 50 years in business and focused on military footwear production during WWII. Military footwear also became popular with civilians. In 1943, the company workers organized under the International Boot & Shoe Workers Union, maintaining a positive relationship with management. In 1964, Weinbrenner introduced The Hike n' Camp, the official Boy Scout boot, which became their best-selling boot. In 1988, the company was purchased by a local group, and the "ThoroGard" division was created for occupational safety footwear. In 1992, Weinbrenner celebrated 100 years in business. In 2000, the employees took ownership of the company through ESOP. In 2001, Weinbrenner donated work boots to Ground Zero after the September 11 attacks. In 2014, they introduced the 1892 Heritage line of handcrafted, lifestyle boots. In 2017, Weinbrenner celebrated its 125th anniversary and committed to upgrading and improving their facilities. In 2022, they celebrated 130 years with the opening of a new factory and launched their first western wear product, Thorogood's Square Toe Wellingtons. In 2023, sales continued to increase as Thorogood gained popularity and introduced new styles.
